Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy: Safety And Benefits

Chiropractic care helps with the health of yourself and your child. Chiropractic stimulates receptors on the body that send signals to the brain. The brain is the master controller that has never seen, smell, heard or felt anything so it needs these signals to know how to control the body. These signals keep the brain working at their best and therefore promotes health throughout the body.

Is chiropractic care during pregnancy safe?

There are no known contraindications to chiropractic care throughout pregnancy. All chiropractors are trained to work with women who are pregnant. Investing in the fertility and pregnancy wellness of women who are pregnant or trying to conceive is a routine care for most chiropractors.

Our chiropractors are trained in the needs of women who are pregnant and will provide you with exercises, stretches and nutritional advise that is safe to use during pregnancy.

You do not want to have x-rays while you are pregnant unless you absolutely need to. We only take x-rays when there is a suspected fracture or pathology. X-rays don't show where the issue is or where to adjust. Read more about why do not perform routine X-rays.

How do you adjust?

We can adjust you sitting or standing, so don't worry about laying on your stomach. We adjust very gently, and we have adjusted children younger than a week old. We use an instrument called an Arthrostim that makes tiny pulses that most kids say feels like a massage.  Scientist have shown that gentle chiropractic adjustments are more effective than the traditional twist and pop chiropractic.

Why should I have chiropractic care during pregnancy?

Your stress during pregnancy affects the development of your child's nervous system.

Stress that a fetus experiences comes from the stress the mother is feeling; Stress hormones will cross the placenta. This is why mothers-to-be should get routine chiropractic too. Feeling what the mother feels helps a child prepare for the world they are about to experience. If a mother is stressed and unhealthy, she will pass this along to her child. A mother who is happier and healthier will have a child who is better behaved, calmer and has a higher IQ.

Nutrition that you eat go straight to the child. The quality of food, even if you eat organic, is lower than our grandparents ate. Most people today, even those who attempt to eat very healthy, have nutritional deficiencies due to food processing, pasteurization and soil depletion. Additionally, the demands of stress further increases the body's nutritional needs.

The United States has the highest first-day infant death rate out of all the industrialized countries in the world. About 11,300 newborns die within 24 hours of their birth in the U.S. each year, 50 percent more first-day deaths than all other industrialized countries combined.

Research has shown that deficiencies accumulate across generations so that each subsequent generation develops more and more problems. The U.S. has more than any other country relied on processed, deficient food for about 3-4 generations, and now has some of the worst levels of infertility, infant mortality, juvenile type 2 diabetes, and allergies of any developed country.

That is why our nutrition testing goes way beyond general supplementation of synthetic fraction-ed vitamins. With targeted, individualized, whole food testing and supplementation, very modest amounts of supplementation can make a tremendous difference in the health of both mother and child.

During pregnancy, there are several physiological and endocrine changes that occur in preparation for creating the environment for the developing baby.

The brain and nervous system are the master communication system to all the body systems including the reproductive system. Keeping chiropractic helps the brain and nervous system work the entire body achieve optimal health.
